KKCR FEATURED PROGRAMMER
KEVIN "SWAMPDADDY" ROGERS
MARDI GRAS SOUL REVIEW
FRIDAYS 2 - 4pm

Kevin "Swampdaddy" Rogers has been a volunteer programmer at KKCR since September of 1998. He loves bringing the music of Louisiana and the Mississippi River Valley to the island of Kaua`i.

Born on Nov. 5th, 1957 in Aurora, Illinois, home of the historic Bluebird Records blues recordings of the 1930s is a blues preservationist. He helped put the Bluebird Records building on the National Historic Register, founded the Fox Valley Blues Society, and the Blues on the Fox Festival, which just celebrated it's 18th anniversary. The Fox Festival is one of the biggest fests in the Midwest.

In Chicago, he became a blues musician in 1980 fronting the band Dealin for 15 years. He has continued fronting the bands Swampdaddy and the Kaua`i Rhythm Kings here on Kaua`i. As a concert promoter here in Hawaii (Mardi Gras Entertainment / Longhair Productions) he brings acts from all over the mainland to Kaua`i including Leon Russell, Derek Trucks Band, Taj Mahal, Little Feet, The Radiators, Los Lobos and Greg Allman.

He is also a chef having helped build several restaurants before moving to Kaua`i. He continues to cook with his "Down Home Catering" company and is a Chili champion garnering several chili championships on Kaua`i.

The Mardi Gras Soul Revue every Friday from 2 - 4pm on KKCR, brings the black music experience to Kaua`i through the songs he plays and the personal stories of Swampdaddy and his experiences in the music business.

He lives on the west side in Kekaha with the beautiful Pam-I-Am Anderson of Rock Candy fame, helping her raise three successful adult children, Luke, Jake and Kirri.

KKCR and all the people, over all the years, have meant the world to him, and spreading this music around the world a real treat!

COMMUNITY RADIO ON THE GARDEN ISLAND
In the summer of 1997, KKCR broadcast its first signals island-wide. Our small community-based, non-profit radio station connects all the remote communities on the isolated Garden Island. KKCR is committed to providing relevant, accurate, timely information during times of crisis. It's also dedicated to representing the unique character of our island community.

KKCR's program schedule reflects the broad, rich spectrum of Kaua`i's community. Musical genres include vintage and contemporary Hawaiian, Jazz, Alternative, Reggae, World, Classical, Rock and Blues. Kaua`i Live features in-studio performances from local and visiting artists on Sunday evenings.

The Community Affairs programming includes weekly call-in talk shows - a Hawaiian Entertainment Calendar and a Community Calendar. Special interest programs include gardening, island pets, health and wellness shows.

As a commercial-free, non-profit entity, KKCR's survival depends on support from our community - local and global. Please join KKCR's `ohana (family). To support listener-powered community radio, please click here.
